Support

Up Next is an independent Jellyfin client for Apple TV. Your movies and series come from the server you connect to.

Connect your server

Enter your Jellyfin hostname or IP address, including the port and base path if your server needs them. For example: 192.168.1.20:8096. Up Next tries HTTPS first when you leave out the scheme. You can enter a complete https:// or http:// URL to choose explicitly.

Sign in with your Jellyfin username and password. The app saves the session securely in Keychain; you do not need to sign in on every launch.

Playback help

Direct playback depends on the video, audio, subtitles and your Apple TV model. Up Next requests server transcoding when a compatible direct source is unavailable. Check that Jellyfin permits transcoding for your user and that the server can encode quickly enough.

During playback, audio and subtitle choices use the player menus. Optional playback information shows the playback method and stream details. If playback fails, try Retry and check your Jellyfin server’s transcoding log.

Your next episode

Series are ordered by the date their newest episode arrived. Opening a series prioritises an unfinished episode, then the next unwatched episode in story order. Browse Episodes lets you choose another episode.

Discover and collections

Discover shelves depend on your library metadata and viewing history. Forgotten films need a known addition date at least one year old, no watched state and no playback progress. Collections support manual titles and genre, runtime and watched-state rules. Collections and exclusions stay on this Apple TV for the selected Jellyfin account; they do not sync to other devices or Jellyfin collections.

Find something for tonight

The brain icon opens the watch chooser. Choose Movie, TV or Either, select genres and optionally set a time budget. Unknown runtimes cannot satisfy a time budget; choose Any length to include them. TV choices follow the next episode rather than choosing a later episode at random.

Intro, recap and credit controls

Skip actions require Jellyfin 10.10 or newer and a compatible media-segment provider configured on your server. The provider must have analysed the title and returned valid timings. Up Next does not install plugins or guess timings. If a title has no segment data, playback continues normally without skip controls.

Preferences

Profile → Languages sets audio and subtitle defaults. In-player language changes can be remembered for a series. Hold Select on Continue Watching to hide a title locally; Profile → Hidden Titles restores it. These preferences do not change other Jellyfin clients.
